Poetry Samples
This is a selection of my poems from the last two years.
Overthought
The thoughts in my head
Pile up high
A tottering tower
Into the sky
Pages and covers
And words in between
But some are just pictures
And some are just dreams
An acrobat swings
From a black silky rope
An astronomer watches
Through a steel telescope
And a waterfall springs
Where the lemon grass grows
Around the stone boy who sits
As moss covers his nose
A wolf's howl rings
Through the cold mountain air
And curl tailed leopard
Live without a care
A scholar adjusts
His glasses to peer
At a book that is lit
By moonlight smudges and smears
What of it live
Our life at the full
When the the future is fast
As a rage charging bull
I'll take my time
To turn into a thousand lives
Of wonder I never could live.
Acceptance
A strike, a dash,
A mark of coal
Joins the scatters
On my soul
Marked by love
And marked by pain
A place where
no one has a name
Time rewinds
And hearts forgive
A world unlike
Anywhere you've been
Wings and feathers
Tails of gold
Across and ever shifting sea
Will my sails unfold
You shalln't find
This hidden land
By falsified access
Or human hand
No, one way only
Is there to reach
This sacred ground
This secret keep
You must travel far
And travel wide
Til the sunset's
By your side
Collect the tears
of ocean then
Hurry, scurry
round the bend
Finest silver
From the sky
Ask it from
The fireflies
Earn the gold
From sandy dunes
Before you cross
The pond of loons
When you reach
The other shore
Take out the things
You got heretofore
Present them to
The shining light
Let them hear
Your initial plight
Perhaps they'll turn
If your wish is pure
Give you wings
And let you learn
But if your words
are tainted red
There's a chance
You'll lose your head
The Careful Choice of Fitting In.
Perhaps you feel that you don't fit
That the gears do not align
Maybe you will shrug it off
Pretending that you're fine
Or will you rise, a puff of ocean air
But if the sea does not agree
If it reaches, lashes, tears your sail
Will you crumble to your knees?
Or will you build a palace, blaze of brass
Screws and canvas, steel and cogs
But if you fly into a storm
Will you stumble through the fog?
Or will you glow, the warmth of flickered flame
Encased in glass and copper cage?
But if the rain forces you home,
Will you start to waste away?
Or will you write, a flowing pen of knowledge
Faded papers that the old gods failed to lose
And when the golden clouds part and angels ask
Whatever will you choose?
Lone Coyote.
Coyote, lone coyote,
You weren't always like this.
There was a time before
when you knew how to love.
When you ran and jumped
You played in the desert sun
And leaped past rattlesnakes
And wove through cacti.
You pranced along the rocky ridges
Of blue-gray mountains
Watching the hawks
Fly past your perch
In the grassy fields
Of pastel green
And smooth yellow
You sprinted
You blended into
The warmth of
Rust-colored and mist-tinted coats
And threw your muzzle into the sky to sing to the moon
But since the sun-caked desert
has turned into
the dust-filled pavement
Made of concrete
And since the spine of the mountains
Is broken and bruised
with tunnels and mines
Created by "brilliant masterminds"
The wonderful fields
Have been tamed
and trampled by
merciless dark hooves
And the warmth of
familiar fur
has faded to a chill
known only by those who have loved and lost
And they ask you why
you snarl and snap
at any who dare come close
they call you a monster
but they are the ones
who left your heart
broken and shattered
you cannot help but if the sharp edges
Will
Leave
Some
Scars
